You can easily prepare it at home without breaking the bank for your coffee.

Frappuccino the classic recipe

The classic frappuccino needs only a few ingredients and is very easy to prepare. It would help if you had the following for the cold drink:

  • 120 ml espresso
  • 100 ml of milk
  • 12 ice cubes
  • One pinch of pectin
  • As you prefer: syrup, cane sugar or other additives

How to prepare the classic Frappuccino

The basis of a frappuccino is, of course, coffee. Espresso works best, but you can also use strong filter coffee. Start by preparing the espresso with your espresso machine. If you don’t own one, you could get a Moka pot, which is the most affordable solution for espresso coffee making. The coffee now goes into the blender together with the milk. The amount of milk is variable according to taste, just don’t overdo it. Now add a pinch of pectin for a creamier consistency and sweeteners at will.

There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to additives. If you want simple coffee frappuccino, just use brown cane sugar for the sweetness. For a drink with chocolate, add chocolate syrup or cocoa powder. If you like the classic Java chip from Starbucks, you could take a few pieces of dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa content) and chop a little beforehand with a knife. In any case, mix coffee, milk, and additives well.

Now add the ice cubes and mix again. In this phase, you mustn’t choose a power level that is too low. Otherwise, you will get too little foam instead of the classic, creamy, and icy consistency as in your favorite coffee shop. So turn up the mixer and mix for 45-60 seconds. Finally, put everything in a glass, garnished with chocolate sprinkles, cream or syrup, and enjoy your home-made Frappuccino!

Frappuccino Caramel a la Starbucks

Almost everyone knows it, and many love it: the Caramel Frappuccino from Starbucks. This recipe comes really close to the original. Here below you may see the ingredients for 2 servings:

  • about 20 ice cubes
  • A double shot of espresso
  • 150 ml of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of caramel syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • whipped cream

The preparation is straightforward: put the coffee and milk in a blender and mix for a while. Now add the caramel syrup and cocoa powder and mix again for about 15 seconds. Finally, add the ice cubes, and mix everything once again with a high power level for 40-60 seconds. 

Finally, decorate everything with cream, and the Caramel Frappuccino a la Starbucks is ready for you to enjoy!

Other variations for inspiration

As far as the variations of your frappuccino are concerned, there are no limits to your imagination. There are now many different types of syrups with which you can conjure up the most fabulous creations!

If you are already preparing your Frappuccino yourself at home, you will, of course, also need the right accessories. Without a decent mixer, you won’t get a creamy foam on your beverage! In this context, decent means that the device must have a high output to grind the ice cubes. 

Also, without sufficient power, the creamy consistency that makes a good frappuccino never arises. Is there a difference between frappe and frappuccino?

Frappe originally comes from Greece and Salonica. They use instant coffee (Nescafe mostly) to prepare it with water, sugar, and in some cases, they add milk. The milk usually is evaporated, and it gives a smooth body to the beverage. Some Greek coffee shops add egg powder to make it even smoother.

On the other hand, in some states of America, a frappé, pronounced fra-pay, is a cold, blended beverage. Again, it varies according to the area you are ordering. Traditionally it contains espresso coffee, syrups, cream, and or ice cream along with mixed cubes of ice. They are then a few times topped with whipped cream, nuts, syrups, chocolate, sprinkles, or other several sweeteners. They are pretty delicious, but in no case, they are beneficial for your health!
